Three days

Chris came home this weekend!!!! What an incredible surprise! Three days of waking up next to my husband. Three dinners that didn't consist of eating cheerios on the couch by myself. Three days of US!! All which meant - 24 hours of sheer chaos trying to get the house ready for him to come home. Some wives would pick up, scrub the floors and vacuum. Not this one. I landscaped the backyard (included hauling 16 bags of red and white rocks and "sculpting them" around the pool), put up tiki torches, painted FLY NAVY on the side of the pool, hung outdoor lanterns, hung indoor curtains, rearranged furniture, bought a new bookshelf, and vacuumed and scrubbed. Not too shabby. Sensing I had maybe bit off a little more than I could chew, my friends Crystal & Caitlyn came over to drink wine and help the night before. Even cleaning is better with friends and wine...

FLY NAVY! (and note the rocks. I done scaped the land!!)

Drill + wine + dirty, dirty mess

Crystal ironing (note my new fab curtains in the background!)

and after I shattered a halogen lamp, Caitlyn graciously vacuumed.

So while we were doing all this, my incredible husband was doing this:
(article from the Pacific Daily News)
In The Wake of Choi-Wan, Remaining 12 Residents of Alamagan & Agrihan Face Evacuation

Guam - The remaining 12 residents of the CNMI's northern islands of Alamagan and Agrihan face mandatory evacuation in the wake of Super Typhoon Choi-Wan.. The Saipan Tribune quotes CNMI Emergency Management Deputy Director Mark Pangelinan as saying: "Evacuate everybody, whether they like or not. Everything on Alamagan is a total damage. It's a total loss.”
There are only eight people left on Alamagan. Four remain on Agrihan.

On Thursday, at the request of CNMI Governor Benigno Fitial, the USNS Alan Shepard arrived in the area and dispatched helicopters to provide emergency supplies to the residents, including more than 260 gallons of fresh water, 50 lbs. of rice and other health and comfort items
The Shepard is a Military Sealift Command dry cargo-ammunition ship. One of the two U.S. Navy helicopters picked up a family of six, including a 2 day old infant, and flew them to Saipan.
“USNS Alan Shepard’s multi-mission capabilities play a critical role in the Maritime Strategy, and we were uniquely equipped to handle humanitarian operations like this one and provide much needed support,” said USNS Alan Sheppard’s Master Capt. Greg Hague.
The humanitarian mission required the support from various organizations including U.S, Naval Forces Marianas, U.S. Coast Guard Sector Guam, and the Government of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.

Yep, that's him flying. Stud. I am so, SO proud of him!!!

The clearing in which they landed.

The village from where they evacuated people.

Evacuating villagers - a one year old, two year old, four year old, and parents.... and oh yes:
the 2 day old baby!!
So while Chris (literally) saved lives, I finished my projects, and we were reunited at the good ole squadron, in the rain. It was incredible.

Bliss

He got home Thursday evening (I found out about 10 minutes before he got in that he was actually coming.. hence the pony tail) and we had a great night of catching up - much needed after a month of shoddy email service. Friday morning, he went into work, and I went to the commissary to prep for the "little" dinner party I decided to throw in his honor. We had FIFTY people over! What a BLAST!! I whipped up a little food, got a lot of drinks, and voila, instant party! So fun! Saturday I took him back to the squadron and said goodbye (horribly sad). My friend Katie dropped by shortly thereafter and said that she had just talked to him (her husband was on duty), and they weren't leaving for awhile.... so went back up to the squadron, hung out for a few more hours, said goodbye again, and then.... their helicopter was in need of a part to be fixed so he got to come home for one more night. Fantastic!! The squadron basket auction was Saturday night, and I was so glad he got to be there, especially since it was yet another theme party: bathrobes (I still owe you pictures of last week's prom and sorority party...)
He left yesterday morning early early, and I am once again, missing the hell out of him. But, I did manage to write a 25 page predictive analysis on the implementation of the 1,000-ship Navy concept. Fancy. AND --- I am going to the states in TWO DAYS!! WOOHOO!! I can't WAIT to see my family. Nephews and sisters (and brothers and parents) and Target and fall and Starbucks make everything better!!
More from "the other" side of the world!!

If you have more photos of the Alamagan destruction, I'd love to see them.

Ugh! The bittersweetness of their coming and going and crazy schedules!

But I have to say the picture of you both running toward one another is the epitome of homecoming!

You know what is soo ironic about this post? The day after this typhoon hit, Mr. Top Gun and I were at his Squadron dealing with the mess from my accident a week ago, and imagine what happened...

He was alerted to fly out on a search and rescue mission for these people!!!! TOO IRONIC!!! I am glad you got to see the hubby for a few days :) Mr. Top Gun has been gone as well, so when he is here I am loving every second with him. D-day for us is in a few weeks, and I am already OVER this deplyoment!
