Cover yourself in raw chicken and jump in the Everglades... OR... Fly from DC back to Guam?
I too picked Everglades. DAMN.
Flight was delayed out of DC so just made it to L.A. Have a 4 hour layover here, then fly to Houston (no this doesn't make sense to me either). 4 hour layover in Houston, then fly to Hawaii. Two hour layover in Hawaii, then fly to Guam. For those of you who don't feel like doing the math, I'll do it for you... THIRTY SEVEN HOURS. 3-7. Hours. In a row. Thinking about holding a sign that says, "need hug and drink."
The good news is, my trip home was a blast. I flew to Denver the night before Memorial day to run the annual Bolder Boulder 10k with the in-laws, and then hopped on a flight back to KC about 17 hours later. Well worth the trip but I'm still tired just thinking about it!!
Flew to DC on Tuesday night and had an incredible trip!! Spent today in the city with former colleagues. Went to a retirement ceremony for a Colonel in the Army at the White House, and wow will that humble you! Seeing him in uniform, so many ribbons, medals, masters degrees, accomplishments, etc., thanking his wife, mom and kids through tears should be emotional for anyone. Following that, had the incredible honor of eating lunch at the White House mess with my former boss-- awesome. I had the West Wing cheeseburger, which is exactly what I had the first time I went, almost exactly a year ago. Each branch of the military supports the White House in a different way. Marines run Marine One (I think Army helps out there too), which is the Presidential helicopter. Air Force = Air Force One. And the Navy? The Navy is responsible for the White House Mess. It is BEAUTIFUL. The kitchen is like nothing you've ever seen -- immaculate stainless steel and so efficient. The dining room itself is breathtaking -- gold tablecloths, Presidential china, and they even let me keep the menu and gave me some Presidential M&Ms. Not bad for a Friday! I am proud to report I didn't break, spill or knock anything or anyone over. At the airport this afternoon was a whole OTHER story, but to be expected.
No word from my hubby. It's been a few days, and I'm ready for an email. And a drink. And a hug. And to be home... T-minus 29 hours(ish)!!
More later, with pictures. Going to find at least a drink....
