Stateside

What a weekend!! Back to the land of frappucinos, cell phones, and TARGET! I made it back to Denver after nothing short of a horrible goodbye (husband - deployed a few hours later for 7 months) at the airport on Friday morning, and roughly 25 hours of travel time. Brutal. Do not recommend long flights after sad goodbyes. The good news is - a) People watching at the Guam airport at 4:30a = fantastic. Lots of Japanese tourists wearing ridiculous outfits (leg warmers with high heels and matching respiratory masks); b) I got a lot of sympathy beverages on the flight :) and c) Continental airlines is still serving meals on flights over 7 hours. The bad news? Breakfast at 7:00a was beef fried rice, I didn't get any pictures of said tourists, and Chris is still gone. I hate that. The hardest part for me is going to sleep knowing he's not coming to bed, and waking up, re-living that he's going to be gone until November. Boo. In the mean time, we decided in an effort to get back to our "fighting weights" as we like to call them (in all fairness, I was a Division one athlete when I was at my said fighting weight, so I think some slack is in order -eh??), we are going to each run 12 miles/week. Chris has a sweet gym on the boat and I have the great outdoors and my trusty Garmin, so there you have it. 12 miles doesn't sound like much to you cute lil runner types, but it is a small hell for me. Again, every sport I ever played utilized running as a punishment. That sentiment never quite leaves a girl. Never! Nonetheless 3 miles 4 times a week? Itsalot. Logged 3.63 today. So, 12 miles x 4 weeks x 7 months = 336 miles. I'm going for 350 by the time he gets back. I might die doing it... BUT I also got some new Saucony's so I'm a little more motivated...

Totally switching gears, in-law-graduation-palooza was a blast. All of Chris' siblings graduated from Regis Univeristy on Sunday! Very exciting. No, they're not triplets. Curt was prior-Navy, Alex did a "victory lap" and Shannon made it in four. I can't believe it's been FIVE years since I graduated. College was a blast, but the "real world" is clearly treating me just fine too!! Lots more to write about, but it's getting late and I still have a paper to write on "Educing information" (aka torture/interrogation) for my Human Intelligence class. Ah the joys.

Will post many more pics when I get a chance.... tomorrow is my last day in D-town and then on to Kansas City!!

How cute are Shannon (sister-in-law, second from left) and her friends? Oh so reminds me of my sorority sisters... we took shots of tequila before graduation, before Maria's rehearsal dinner, before Amanda's (who I got to see tonight!! YEAH!) wedding, and shocking, before my rehearsal dinner and wedding I believe. There's a good chance a bottle of tequila will be in the waiting room whenever one of us has a baby...

The whole fam, sans Chris.

At the graduation party last night, Chris' 86 year old grandmother, Mimi, was called onstage for her fake birthday. Hilarious!

Curt, moi, Shan and Alex

More later... must go "educe information...."

Hang in there!! For me, the first few days were the hardest. It sounds like you have plenty to keep you busy and distracted though. You'll be okay!!

And good luck on the running!

Loved this post;) Especially the beef fried rice for breakfast, gag! Wow, do ya'll have to wear face masks over there? Or is that just the tourists that do not know better:p Like d.a.r said, hang in there and you can totally do 12 miles a week girl! I'm still not there yet but I just hit my 7 mile a week mark this past week so I'm celebrating:)I am sooooo new at this so we can struggle together! Have fun in Kansas city!

Thanks for stopping by my blog. I am glad you found my post on deployment encouraging.

I was reminded of my own long flight home after DH deployed for the first time while reading your post. I too was offered a complimentary glass of wine, since I do not like the taste of wine I declined. That's when the flight attendent asked if I would like some Oreo Cookies. I said sure, and oh my gosh, they just kept bringing me more Oreo's. I couldn't even eat all the packages of cookies they gave me, lol.
