No Guam ... No Glory!

Have Space-A. Will travel.

So I found this great little unspoken club on the world wide web of military spouse bloggers. There are no meetings, no cocktail hours (which for the record, there should be), no special handshake. But I love reading their blogs. Some of their husbands are deployed like one of my faves, JLC, whose hubby has been in Iraq for 12.5 months, and has 2.5 months to go; or like this hilarious girl who in her words is "surviving and thriving" while her husband is in Iraq for a year. There are plenty more blogs that I read of women whose husbands just got back, have been home for awhile, etc. but they all seem to be rocking deployments and rocking military spouse life. I will say I think I'm a good military wife -- I mean I did quit my fab government job, move to Guam, became Co-President of the Knives club, hosted Easter dinner for forty, and have daily pool therapy with other fabulous wives, but I don't feel like I'm rocking deployment. Nor thriving. I am quite over waking up every morning and reaching over to an empty bed. A little exasperated from typing long emails searching for something more to say than "i'm good, how are you?" to a boat somewhere in the Pacific(ish) and getting a "Mailer-daemon: email has been delayed" response. It could be the 20 page paper I have due next Monday that's looming over my head for school that I can't get motivated to even type the title page, it could be a lot of things. I'm getting antsy and again, it's only been TWELVE DAYS. TWELVE. Sing it with me: I can't get noooo satisfaction motivation??

Here's where I'm at: I need a project. Or an adventure. Or a something. I'm not talking about putting all of this energy into running (although I did go to the gym at 5:45 this morning... go me!), golfing lessons, or scrapbooking, or becoming scuba-certified, or volunteering (although seriously, those are all on my "list"...) Being home has been a BLAST (!!!), I can't wait to head to Denver in 2 weeks to run the Boulder Bolder in ridiculous matching outfits with my sister-in-law, I'm so excited to head to DC for a few days at the end of the month and I am thrilled about a potential port visit to see my hubby (trying not to get my hopes up for that one), but I need something bigger. Something my online master's program just isn't quite fulfilling...

So here's what I'm thinking. This summer/fall, once I know Chris' schedule, I think I'm going to try to space-A around the world. Hop a flight from Guam to wherever, and go from there. Maybe to Hickam (HI) to Travis (CA) to Andrews (MD) to Ramstein (Germany) to Sigonella (Italy) to ??? Maybe from Guam to Japan to Philippines to Australia to ??? who knows?? I figure we don't have kids yet, this is the one time in life I don't have a job, I can stay on base at these places, and why not?? I've already decided I'll limit myself to one suitcase and take an empty one for "treasures." Thoughts? Anyone want to come? Just THINK of the blogs...

In the mean time, how cute are my nephews? I babysat them yesterday and they are freaking adorable!!! Buddy is 2, Declan (deck-len) is 1, and they are two kids that I wouldn't mind keeping. Buddy is seriously a child prodigy. My brother Blaise said he taught him shapes, so we were reviewing yesterday. I drew the standard square, triangle, circle, but Blaise totally showed me up. A piece of their conversation:

Blaise: Buddy what shape is this?
Buddy: Eight shides... thatsh a octagon.
Blaise: Good Buddy!! How about this one?
Buddy: Mmm thatsh a parallelogram.

PARALLELOGRAM? ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? He's TWO! This is the same child who came up to me yesterday and wanted to play pinball on the computer. When I said he couldn't play pinball, he countered with,"ok. Can I just check my email real quick?" What!??! A few pics:

Jumping on the trampoline

Clearly Declan was confused when Buddy decided to lay down...

Precious!!!

More later... let me know if you are in for my trip around the world :)

I think that sounds amazing! If I didn't have a job I would totally jump on that ban wagon.

You can do this! When Matt left for Iraq in November, the first month was the hardest...don't get me wrong it's still hard but it's not as hard as those first days.

If you can possibly see your DH in the next few months, go for it! If I could have met up with DH during deployment I totally would have.

I had almost forgotten about Mailer-daemon responses...ick! I totally do not miss that.

Sign me up. Seems like the job market here is going to be a bust for awhile (hiring freeze), so I'm going to go the online master's route, too. Might as well throw in a little sight-seeing while I'm at it:) -alexis

New #1 reason to prematurely tie the knot with Handsome Dan: Space-A around the world with awesome lady. Darn you and making the things I do to make me happy in Guam seem so little! Yay for golf lessons and scuba!
