After another action-packed Guam weekend, I am pretty much spent. It's always fun waking up on Monday feeling like you have an enormous hangover when you actually didn't drink (exception: Friday). It all started Friday afternoon when Jo and I spent some time in our new pool after 7 hours of non-stop studying (which is what I should be doing now... I just keep hoping my papers are going to write themselves!). Anyhow, the base
General's wife drove by, did a double take, pulled around again, and got out of her car and asked us if she could take pictures. She said it was just "too Guam." Two girls, standing in an above ground pool, with mason jars full of crystal light. She said she would be drinking "crystal light" too if she wasn't driving. We tried to tell her that we really weren't boozing it up at 2:30, but she just laughed... which of course got us thinking, "why AREN'T we drinking??" So we did. Quite a bit. Chris and Todd got home a little later, and we all headed down to Bamboo Willies beach bar for more fruity drinks and some pretty bad karaoke. It started good, but went quickly downhill. I don't think even Meatloaf himself should sing Paradise by the Dashboard Light as a duet at 11:00... The Gen's wife also pointed out that we have several
Noni trees in our backyard. The trees produce rare fruits that of course have tons of health/weight loss related benefits. They taste terrible, so they have to be good for you. 4 or 5 "special crystal lights" into the afternoon Jo and I came up with quite the business plan to market & sell the
noni fruits.... It didn't seem quite as fool-proof on Saturday.
Saturday morning I had open gym with my new basketball team, the "Andersen Bombers." I was thinking it would be a lot like the volleyball team - fairly unstructured, fun but still competitive. Wrong-o... it is legitimate. The coach had a whistle, we ran sprints and I'm more or less sore everywhere. We're hosting a tournament next weekend with teams from Japan, Korea, and area teams, and the league play starts the first week in April and is (wait for it) televised!! Not your mom's intramural league. I'm still trying to pretend that I don't have a massive sinus infection, but when the coach asked me after a coughing fit just how often I smoke (
uhh I don't), I'm thinking I might suck it up and go see a doctor this week.
Sunday a bunch of guys came over for a game of ultimate
frisbee in the "quad" behind our house. We were all sitting around afterwards for an impromptu
bbq when Billie got a
SAR (search & rescue) call on the duty phone. It could have been a scene out of a movie - Todd and Colin were on duty, so they jumped up, ran home to change; Billie was on the phone trying to get
ahold of the CO, and everyone had almost left for the squadron when the
SAR was called off (coast guard boats found the swimmer). Fun reminder why we really live here. :)
More later... as much as I am procrastinating these papers, I gotta get moving!!

1 Witty Remarks:
I hate to burst your bubble but the mormons already have that market covered. It's called Tahitian Noni and just like you said it's supposed to be a cure all! My friend actually worked for them for awhile and she loved it.
